| HR GIGER BEYOND THE GOOD IN PRAGUE |
|
For this exhibition of the creator of the Biomechanical world, father of the Alien, and
Oscar-winner for film design, the Swiss artist is coming to Prague to introduce not only
a selection of drawings paintings and sculpture, but also film, music and multimedia
projects associated with his work.
Fear
We fear most that which we cannot fully grasp. We don‘t fear the face of foreigners,
armed people, or ghosts; it’s the uncertainty of what is to come that scares us most.
What will become of us the next time we are confronted with the unknown? The condemned
are calmer than their judges. Those who are trapped are calmer than those fleeing. Even
if the fate is cruel, those sorts know all know what to expect.
Prague’s National Technical Museum will host the exhibition of HR Giger.
From the work of the artist, and his team, a fascinating composition of mechanics, fantasy, architecture and magic has emerged. Two epic legends await visitors on two floors of the museum: the legend of humans and the legend of the Biomechanoid.
These two epics culminate in a third, a Swiss legend of blasphemy.
The Legend of the Humans
The legend of the human is defined by a narrow throat through which cynical childhood
commences. Throughout the journey, the human encounters sex, drugs and rock & roll—but
also Philosophy, and magic. Just about everybody lives a useless life along the frontiers
over whose ramparts they have never gazed. They live only to fall from this world through
a hole in the rear of a garbage truck. Always seeking to know the difference between good
and bad, they’ll never find out; desire is an attribute that prevents knowing. The
sojourn of the human is presented on the second floor of the exhibition.
The Legend of the Biomechanoids
Desire is the basis of morality; morality enables desire. The Biomechanoid is a being
with no desire.
The Biomechanoid doesn’t seek anything. It is a boundless living machine that doesn’t
suffer life. The Biomechanoid doesn’t live. The Biomachanoid is, thinks and happens.
The Biomechanoid creates landscapes and worlds. The Biomechanoid created the humans for
amusement. The Biomechanoids are residents of the greater universe beyond the great
impenetrable structures, and our world is merely a part of their thoughts. The paintings,
statues and mummies of the Biomechanoids are assembled on the main floor of the
exhibition.
Swiss Legends
Switzerland is a small world behind the ramparts with beautiful mountains beneath which
is hidden a tunnel system in the form of a pentagram with massive pyramids on their edge.
Inhabitants create all kinds of things and machines. They are known for their talent and
care for financial resources. The only place in the world where the Biomechanoid would
emerge would be Switzerland. Plans for this can be found in the exposition. Several
hundred paintings, drawings and objects will be exhibited for three months accompanied by
a program of films associated with HR Giger. Films will be shown in the film-hall.
The exhibition will be opened by HR Giger in person.
